Fall Creek Falls

About two months ago I felt the need for a vacation.  On a whim I logged into the state website for booking cabins at state parks.  Fall Creek Falls is someplace we have not been in many years. As luck would have it, there was 1 cabin available.  It was the only cabin and only for a single weekend.  Everything else was booked.  So I quickly reserved the cabin.  When looking at the details I see that it is pet friendly.... Bear and Rose's lucky day!

So blocked out everyone's calendar and we were set.

The days of Rod and I taking a weekend with just our two girls is most likely over... so this trip included both boyfriends.  Although we will miss the days of our girls being younger, we were happy to have Matt and Hunter along.

Our cabin was not one of the newly renovated ones, but still plenty nice for our short weekend.  We were on the lake with our balcony actually out over the water.  We had plenty of ducks coming by to see us and the water was beautiful.

On Saturday we did hiked most of the day.  It included going hiking to see Cane Creek Falls, then driving over to the main Fall Creek Falls.  We hiked to Rocky Point Overlook (more to come about that spot!!!), then to the bottom of Fall Creek Falls where we had lunch (Thanks to Bear for toting that to the bottom for us).  The day was finished with grilling steak and chicken and having a great family meal.

Sunday, after a huge breakfast,  had us going to an overlook for Piney Falls and the overlook called Buzzards Roost.  This was one of the coolest overlooks we have ever done!

I took a lot of pictures... I am posting less than 10% feel free to scroll and look until you get bored :)

Is that a girl driving that Jeep in the snow?

Tina got to drive in 4" of snow as part of her Cheatham County Drivers ED program. She starting off by going down and up the driveway. I let her drive over to her friend Page's and pick her up. They came back to the house and went sledding. We got some funny looks from old guys shoveling their driveways when they saw her driving.

Freezing Rain, Sleet, and then some Snow

The weatherman was calling for 4" - 7" of snow... of course they were wrong.  After freezing rain, a bunch of sleet, and then a little snow we were set!  The kids have no hope of going to school any day this week and the driveway is perfect for sledding!

Here are a few links to the sledding videos... not sure why some of them are blurry.. guess that would be the photographers fault.....

Driveway.. part.. who can keep count?

When you really clean or do a big project do you make a mess as a means to the end?  I know I normally do and this is what I have told myself over the last 24 hours... it will be better in the end... it will be better in the end....

This weekend was another driveway project.  As most people that know us can attest - our driveway is the worst part of our house.  One day I dream it will be paved... until that day, we will continue to work on it and put gravel down.

The biggest problem is the driveway is over 100 feet of elevation change - down and back up... Water runoff is a big problem that we have worked to overcome.  So this weekend Rod started work on the road side of the diveway.  There has been a huge rock shelf that sticks out toward the driveway causing water to run from the hillside across the drive. We used a skid loader with a breaker drill attachment (ok, I might not have all the names correct for these pieces of equipment, but I think I do).

So this post is about the mess part... hopefully I will be posting in the very near future about the cleanup of the mess!

Here are the pictures from this weekend:
Before they started.  A look from the house side down and the road side is in the distance

Yes, this used to be the drive way.  This was after digging had started

All this rock was broken up by the skid loader

I don't think these two loads are going to do much....Buying gravel is something I hate to do!
