Allergy Shots

I don't know any person (kid or adult) that likes shots.  Tina is no exception.  She might/might not have had a reputation at her pediatrician when she was little on how much she hated the shots and how cooperative she was.  So that is why when the doctor basically said if you ever want to feel better, you need to be allergy tested and start allergy shots.  After months of feeling really bad, she finally hit the threshold and agreed to the testing.  That was last week and she was allergic to 31 of the 50 items they tested her for.  The best news out of the testing is she is NOT allergic to dogs, cats, or horses!  However, every tree, grass, mold, mite, etc is her enemy.

The regiment that her doctor prescribes is a low dose shot done every other day.  Because she is allergic to molds and other items, it is actually two different shots daily.  Last Friday was the 1st round of shots.  The doctor injected both shots and was teaching Tina how to give them to herself.  Today was a huge milestone.  The child that took a large nurse to hold her down to give her a shot just about 6 years ago, actually took the syringe and injected herself!  On Wednesday she will go one last time to be supervised giving the shot and then we will come home with all the supplies for her to administer 2 injections to herself every other day.  Talk about conquering your fears!  Proud of her!

I did not get a picture of her giving the actual shot (I didn't want to be a distraction) but here is a picture right after - look she even has a smile on her face!!!
